Alake Charge Ogun Residents On Voter's Card Registration

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, has called on the residents of Ogun State to take the voters registration exercise more seriously than ever before. 

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo made the plea when receiving a delegation of Voters Education Department of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abeokuta today (Tuesday).

The Egba monarch disclosed to the INEC Officials that he had always been personally and actively involved in assisting the electoral body to mobilize eligible voters to register and observe their civic responsibility.

The Alake warned eligible voters that they should not wait until sixty days to the end of the registration exercise before rushing to register as it might be too cumbersome at that time. 

He also expressed displeasure at the attitude of some voters selling their voters card to politicians for whatever amount, adding that such action was tantamount to selling their freedom and right to choose who they preferred to represent and govern them.

Oba Adedotun also warned eligible voters especially in Egbaland not to fail to register and collect their voter cards because the relative large voter population advantage in the six Egba Local Governments may turn out be a disadvantage. 

The Alake also commended the INEC in Ogun State, as well as the national level, for their result oriented voters education, adding that they must not relent in their task of ensuring that all eligible voters are registered and voters’ cards given out to them.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the Voters Education, INEC, Ogun State, Olori Adenike Tadashe appreciated the Egba Paramount Monarch for his past and present fatherly and leadership roles in ensuring that people around him registered as voters.

Olori Adenike Tadashe disclosed that in order to ensure that more people were registered throughout Ogun State; additional 20 registration centres had been approved and were in operation.

On the complaint that those that registered since 2015 were yet to collect their permanent voters card, she revealed that periodical announcements were being made to invite the registered voters to collect their permanent documents in the designated centers, explaining that corrections were made to ensure that those that had problems with their registration eventually got their permanent voters card.

Olori Adenike Tadashe reassured the Alake that INEC would not relent in its effort in ensuring that all eligible voters were registered in Ogun State.

The Egba Traditonal Ruler and Chiefs that joined the Alake in receiving the INEC officials were Onijaiye of Ijaye titun Oba Nofiu, the Bobagbero, Chief Lanre Adebo and the Aare Baaroyin, Olootu Layi Labode.
