OGUN: House Committee Tasks LG on Food Production

Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ogun State have been advised to embrace faming by cultivating food and cash crops to boost economic activities of their areas.

The Chairman, Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Olusola Sonuga gave the advice in Ado-Odo Local Government area, when he led other committee members on   visit to the council area, which comprises Ado-Odo, Agbara/Igbesa, Sango Ijoko Local Government and Development Areas.

Sonuga said by planting food crops like water melon, cassava, maize, plantain among others, they would apart from ensuring food sufficiency in their respective localities, be contributing to the agricultural revolution being embarked upon by the State government.

He implored them to sustain the existing mutual relationship between the executive, legislature and the career officers, for the development of the councils, adding that measures should be put in place to boost their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Other members of the committee, Hon. Akinpelu Aina, Hon. Olusola Bankole, Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji and Hon. Olayiwola Ojodu also advised the chairmen to ensure that the overhead cost does not surpass the capital cost.

The Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Bashiru Oladele Adeniji, on behalf of other four LCDA’s chairmen said, their administrations had embarked on grading of roads, clearing of refuse, as well as providing logistic support to security agencies towards combating crimes.
