...To award schorlaships to two best Students
The lawmaker representing Ijebu North State constituency 1 at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bowale Solaja in collaboration with Anglican Church Diocess of Ijebu North at the weekend launched a five weekends free coaching class for prospective Jamb, Neco and Waec candidates in Ijebu North Local Government to help prepare them for the exams.
Addressing the students, the lawmaker said education is key to the development of a nation and therefore should be free at all levels in the country.
“Education as a priority sector of the present administration, will surely achieve success as we jointly give support.
“As such, i will continue to commit my energy and resources to ensure the younger ones in my Local Government get the best.
"I am where i am today because i am educated. Education is key and should therefore be free at all levels in Nigeria. Our fathers and mothers in the Southwest region benefited from Late Obafemi Awolowo's free education programme. It is a pity that education is no longer free in the Southwest.
"This is my own little way of assisting indigent students in my Local Government. It will go a long way in preparing them for the exams. I implore you all to grab this rare opportunity with both hands. I will award scholarships to the best two Students in the exams. This i think will encourage other Students, " he submitted.
He commended the church management for their foresight and for collaborating with his team to organise the programme .
In his own speech, a director in the Directorate of Sunday School of the Church, Venerable Olaniyi Ademola Alawale thanked the lawmaker for having the interest of the youths in his constituency and Ifelodun at heart.
Speaking further, Ven. Ademola, also commended the lawmaker for making available food items, exercise books and other materials needed by the Students, describing him as "a true representative of the people".
Responding on behalf of other Students, Adebogun Sarah, A Student of Obanta comprehensive high school Awa, said she and her colleagues are ready to grab the opportunity with both hands. She thanked the lawmaker for bringing succour and relief to parents who cannot afford to send their children to attend coaching classes. She said the programme will positively affect the lives of the Students and widen their scope of knowledge.
Beneficiaries were drawn from the 10 wards in the Local Government.
