The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the
national level has been commended for its role in flushing out fake Journalists
through the introduction of the bio-metric data.
The Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of
Information and Strategy, Mr. Abiodun Awere, gave this commendation in his
office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while playing host to the new Executive members
of the State Council of the Union, led by its Chairman, Comrade Soji Amosu.
He lamented the lack of an enabling legislature to
tackle fake Journalists, enjoining members of the union to always process and
verify every information before disseminating to the public.
He applauded the new Executive for providing
borehole at the Council’s Secretariat, noting that more could be achieved by
putting in place programmes that would add value to the union and have positive
impact on members.
While calling for improvement on member’s welfare,
which he noted was the essence of the union, he urged the Council to be more
organised, assuring of the Ministry’s unflinching support to the union at all
times.
‘’We know how to organise perfectly for others, but
when it comes to our own, we do not take it seriously. I want you to be more
organised in running the affairs of the union, organise regular workshops and
seminars for members; I want to assure you that the Ministry of Information and
Strategy will continue to support this union to achieve its objectives’’, he
added.
Earlier, the Chairman of the union, Comrade Amosu,
while appreciating the management and staff for being partners in progress,
congratulated Mr. Awere on his appointment as the Permanent Secretary, praying
for remarkable development during his tenure.
He described his appointment as well deserved, ‘’we
were all looking forward to this appointment, which we knew you are already due
for’’, thanking Governor Amosun for appointing two other members of the union,
Messrs. Festus Kehinde and Diji Akinhanmi, as General Managers of Ogun State
Television and Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation respectively.
In his remark, the Secretary of the union and the
Editor Ogun Update, Comrade Ayokunle Ewuoso, thanked the management of the
Ministry for its contribution, assuring that they would put to use every advice
being given.
