Senator Ibikunle Amosun is today celebrating his 63th birthday. Indeed, this day is glorious and memorable not only for the distinguished Senator but also for millions of his followers and admirers across the length and breadth of Ogun State. An astute man reputed for his hyper political sagacity and uncommon quality of a ‘financial engineer’.
Indeed the iconic and quintessential distinguished Senator Amosun deserves all the accolades and encomia as a political enigma of this generation.
To many political minded fellows Ogun State has only produced three of his types namely Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Moshood Abiola and Ibikunle Amosun in terms of political dexterity and sagacity, astuteness, foresight, populism, goals settings and accomplishments. Ibikunle Amosun like the other two personalities is an extremely likeable personality with a ‘near cult followership’ in Ogun State and indeed the Southwest.
Senator Ibikunle Amosun even after almost two years of exiting as the governor of Ogun State still remain the most consistently discussed politician in the State. He has become a political institution and he personify a testimony of a symbol of good governance and indeed he is a reference point to a typology of a well 'organized government' ever witnessed in the history of Ogun State.
Yes, Amosun represents the face of a purposeful and forward looking politician of this generation. An accomplished political general.
Millions of people all over Ogun State and indeed Nigeria have rolled out the drums to celebrate an icon, Mr Phenomen and a political colossus.
The journey of Ibikunle Amosun to this high pedestal is tortuous but highly remarkable. A transition from a topmost accountant to a populist politician whose self proclaimed political mandates are ‘making a remarkable positive difference in political governance’ and ‘establishing a tested political apparati' that has become enduring and sustainable.
This political attitude has led to a SIA political latitude and a formation of SIA Movement, a political mass movement in all nooks and crannies of Ogun State.
Ibikunle Amosun has redefined politics in Ogun State and indeed Nigeria with friends across the length and breadth of Nigeria. No politician in Southwest has ever achieved this since the death of MKO Abiola!
Senator Ibikunle Amosun is a phenomenon whose political shoes he vacated as the immediate past governor of Ogun State has been found too large to wear by the succeeding government and associate politicians.
Many people have called Senator Ibikunle Amosun Mr Capacity. Yes he is!!!. This is a man who met Ogun State in the hands of bandits and cultists in 2011 and returned the state back to sanity within two years. He also met a troubled state economy in 2011 with paltry 700 million naira as monthly IGR and within a year increased it by over 600% to N5b naira monthly. An incredible achievement only possible by someone with a clear knowledge of financial engineering.
A major achievement of Senator Ibikunle Amosun in his political career was the massive infrastructural turnaround of Ogun State which has turned the State from glorified ‘village state’ to a city. This feat has earned him the title: ‘Father of modern Ogun State’.
In fact the foundation for 'a new Ogun State' was laid by Senator Ibikunle Amosun with over 150 Foreign Direct Investments in Ogun State within five years. This is one of the reasons for the current financial stability and sustainability of the succeeding government in Ogun State.
During Amosun era as Ogun helmsman the State became the destination of first choice by investors in Nigeria. The magic he used to woo investors still remain a ‘trade secret’!!!
And to his followers Senator Ibikunle remain a great and uncommon leader, highly passionate and compassionate of his followers. He is welfaristic and populist in his political relationship with his followers and constituents.
Ibikunle Amosun has remained an enigma and he is referred to as the ‘heart’ of politics of Ogun State. A grassroot politician who combined the political sagacity of Obafemi Awolowo, the audacity of MKO Abiola and the telemagnetic politics Mohammed Buhari.
Many admirers of Amosun see him as an exceptional leader, the hope and political pillar of Ogun State. He has also been described as political elephant that is a beauty to behold. Amosun is indeed a 'political gold fish' that can't be hidden.
Indeed Ibikunle Amosun is perceived as the political Master of this generation. A man that has become a political idol to millions of politicians in Ogun State in particular and Nigeria in general.
