A middle-aged man, Bisi Shogbade has been allegedly beaten and stoned to death over homosexuality allegation in Ogun state, while the Nigerian Police declared one Azeez Bodunrin wanted.
Shogbade who was caught in the act with Azeez Bodunrin, who had fled into the thin air was brutally killed last week.
According to the information gathered, Shogbade and Bodunrin were caught in the act by a 12-year old boy (name withheld), who called the attention of the community members.
Our reporter learnt that, the indecent practice occurred on May 4, 2021 at No 10, Olusegun Osoba road, Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta, Ogun state when the boy, who peeped through the window saw them during the act.
The practice is contrary to the same sex marriage prohibition Act 2013 of the Federal Government of Nigeria which was signed into law in the year 2014.
The 12-year old boy went to inform some elders, who also went to peep through the window were amazed at what they saw.
It was then, that they went to call some area boys within the vicinity, and then bounced on them before taking them out to the public in their nakedness.
We learnt that during the process, Bodunrin disappeared into the thin air, and was nowhere to be found.
One of the eyewitnesses, Jonathan who speak with our reporter said "some thugs took over the incident and started beating Sholagbade with planks and rods.
During the course of searching for Bodunrin who had fled for his life, some hoodlums started stoning Sholagbade.
"It was some passerby that alerted the Policemen who came to the rescue of Shogbade, but we learnt he died at the hospital."
A Police source who confide in our reporter said Shogbade has made confectioner statement, agreeing to the fact that he and his accomplice had been in the indecent act for so long.
The source confirmed that Shogbade is still receiving treatment in the hospital due to his injury but said all efforts is still ongoing to apprehend Bodunrin and charged to court.
But in the police interim investigation report made available to journalists earlier today, by the office of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ibara Division, it was gathered that on the May 4, 2021, at about 17:23 hours, the police division received information that one Azeez Bodunrin and one Bisi Sholagbade were observed engaging themselves in an unlawful sexual relationship.
The Police said before their arrival, Shogbade had been seriously injured, while Bodunrin fled, and disappeared to an unknown destination.
“We hereby declare Mr. Azeez Bodunrin wanted consequent upon the breach of Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act 2013 signed into law January 7, 2014”. He was alleged to have engaged in homosexual practice with one Mr. Bisi Shogbade who was stoned and brutally injured.
“Unfortunately, Shogbade died during the cause of our investigation due to his injury while receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
“Before Shogbade's death, after much investigation and interrogation, he disclosed that his partner in crime has been his male fiancé for a long time before they were caught.
“Anyone with useful information about the whereabouts of one Azeez Bodunrin should please contact the nearest Police Station, law enforcement agency or journalists for proper prosecution.”
Also, Police said they have made arrest of some suspects who were part of stoning and beating Shogbade to stupor.
All attempts to contact Bodunrin in order to get his own side of the matter proved abortive as friends and relatives declined to reveal his whereabouts to journalists who made inquiries.
