Hon Wahab Haruna Abiodun Egungbohun, Member Ogun State House of Assembly, Yewa North Constituency II has said efforts is ongoing to secure the release of Pastor Kunle Garb who was arrested for exposing the encroachment of his constituency (Yewa North) land by Benin republic.
In a release release made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the lawmaker described the arrest has illegal saying that he's working closely with other stakeholders in Yewa North to ensure Pastor Garb release.
According to the release "My attention has been drawn to illegal arrest of a Nigeria citizen. A field missionary Mr Kunle Garb at Igbokofin by the Benin Republic Police.
"He was arrested because he exposed the encroachment of our land by Benin republic.
"After consultation with community leaders we have made effort to visit Ipobe, republic of Benin to secure his release but I was prevented from seeing him.
"Also, I have reported to the appropriate authorities to ensure he is released without harm. The executive Governor, Dr Prince Dapo Abiodun Mfr has been working for immediate release of the detainee.
"I have also spoken with the member of House of Representatives and the senator representing Ogun West on the issue which they have also reported the incident to the National Border Control Agency and they are also working to secure his release.
"I am using this medium to inform our youths, leaders, council of chiefs and Oba’s to remain calm while we work on his release.
"However, Hon Olaifa Jimoh Aremu (OJA) Member Federal House of Representatives is working to secure the release of Pastor Kunle Garb.
"We appreciate the effort of Hon Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly for his limitless effort on the issue since Thursday 24th when Pastor Kunle Garb was arrested. A wonderful appreciation to the Chairman Yewa North Local Government for his efforts and visitation to Ipobe.
"A thumb up for the Ogun State Chapter of NUJ for their support.
"We are wishing Pastor Kunle Garb Happy Birthday. May God strength him. Long live and prosperity. Soon he will return back to our land. Is a true nationalist, a pastor of repute, a caring community leader, an historian and erudite scholar."
He therefore appealed to the President Federal Republic of Nigeria to also act fast to avoid another Darhomey War.
"We want peace to return to the area and also ensure that further encroachment is put to stop.''
